Do Over Day?

Man....yesterday was a day from hell (it did get better).....as what I deal with is confidential in nature, I'll just say that I got a pretty egregious alligation against a manager in my company.  However, the way that my boss thought I handled it....he...well....ripped me a new one.  In the end, the manager was terminated, my boss and I 'hugged it out' and the day ended well.  Oh...and I was late for the first time in my career....ever.  I am never late, unless it's planned.  We got a late start at home, it was foggy, every light was red, every car was slow, every school zone had a crossing guard letting kids across.....it was a comedy of errors.

Last night was 1:30 on the trainer, but as things ALWAYS go as planned (hint of sarcasm), I ended up running around town looking for a 50 foot long Cat5 cord.  So....by the time I got home and changed it was 9:15, I was menatally done and didn't want to ride.  However, I thought WWJD (what would JFord do)?  He would say "Do Work" and make it happen....so that's what I did.  Just did 1:10.

Also...I had about 20 minutes left on American Horror Story which is getting weirder (more weird?) by the episode....but still intrigued and confused.  I cranked out 200 situps to end the night.

This morning went a lot better.

Total Crunches (through 2/5):  500

  1. The day and life of the HR, I tip my hat to you, tough profession

Ahhh, life.... the biggest obstacle we face. Sometimes I am asked why I dont really follow the pros in our sport. It is because of stories like this, the days were we deal with life, the 40+ week job, the family, the errands...... AND yet, we still find the time to make it all work and still train. When you step back and look at it, it is a pretty amazing feat.

    Nice work getting it done.

    1. You know....if I didn't have a job, I'd be as fast and as rich as the top 10 athletes.....can you imagine just being able to train whenever you wanted, getting the right kind of rest and recovery, etc.....

And thanks for recongizing my profession. Most people think we sit around and drink coffee and fire people. (and somedays that's true - haha)

    2. I had a debate about that in the past, the key question to ponder is "If triathlons was your job, would you still love it, or will it just be a job to you?" Very interesting if you sit back and really think about it. As cool as it would be to get paid to do it, after awhile, when does it "feel" like a job part kicks in?

  2. I find it easier for me to stay up alter and ride the trainer than trying to do it while the family is still awake! A lot of nights, I do not even plan to start my rides until 9:30ish

    1. Normally, what's been working is starting around 8:15 (baby's been asleep, little one is in bed, and everything is done in the house - cleaned up from dinner, Annie is doing her thing, etc)....but last night was the odd night. Part of what sucked was the 'mental aspect' of thinking I was going to start at 8:15, then not. Oh well....it happens but I had the JFord guy on my shoulder saying "Do Work". :)

  3. Hey, do you have any idea how many of you "Brad Donovan's" are out there in the big land of Facebook. I had to chuckle as I scrolled down through the pages! :) When you're on there next time, friend me Julie Coy Martinez, of First In Philly (that once was) fame!

We have the parallel lives. This morning I was up at 5 running. As parents, we will train in the dark.
